The Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning (SCDL) is a distance learning school that is based in India, but also available for students abroad. Forming in 2001, its mission is to provide each student with the means for self-paced learning, from anywhere. They have students from 42 different countries, and have over 200,000 students enrolled.

The Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning ensures that, while their students are learning from a distance, they are still obtaining a quality education. They boast over 350 faculty, all accessible by students through the “Virtual Classroom” where students can ask questions, interact with classmates and replay archived lectures. Students experience what the centre calls “Blended Learning”, where the coursework is presented by printed material, DVD lectures and faculty interaction in the Virtual Classroom and chat sessions.

Students of the Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning complete their assignments online and submit them through a web portal, run by SCDL. Through this portal students can also take online exams, access their academic counselor and communicate with other students and faculty through the Message Board. SCDL also has a dedicated call center, manned with student counselors to give support to students as the need arises.

SCDL offers degrees in several fields, including Management, IT, Law, Humanities and Social Sciences. They are very careful to ensure that the curriculum is supervised closely by the Board of Studies, comprised of experts in each field who will closely oversee the development of the course material. Students are evaluated based on their class assignments, project submission and exam grades. Some exams *are* required to be administered in person, and in this situation, students have the opportunity to do so in over 40 cities across India or in an exam center located in Dubai. For students who are not near India or Dubai, they can take the exams with the help of an embassy official, reputable business, university, or library who is willing to sponsor them.
