Louisiana State University (LSU) is well-established agricultural and mechanical college founded in 1853. With the introduction of the LSU distance learning program, they have opened up their curriculum to an even bigger audience. The LSU distance learning program is based off of the traditional LSU curriculum. Located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, it was originally founded under the name Louisiana State Seminary of Learning & Military Academy. It is the first institution of the Louisiana State University System and the largest in terms of student body. As of 2009, the University has over 25,000 undergraduate and graduate students in 17 schools and colleges.
There are two types of courses you can take in the LSU distance learning program. Courses for credit, and non-credit courses. The non-credit courses are for those who haven’t attended college in a while, or are looking to brush-up on skills for their career. Since the courses are non-credit, it means that you will not receive college credits or transcripts. There are registration fees and textbook costs, and a placement exam is required for some non-credit courses, such as math.
The LSU distance learning program stands on a foundation of experience and expertise. With their first correspondence study program forming in 1924, it was one of two original departments. In 1982 the Correspondence Study department name was officially changed to the LSU Independent & Distance Learning to reflect the independent, self-paced nature of the program. The LSU distance learning program aims to make the learning experience as flexible as possible, allowing you to work towards your dreams without disrupting your life. In the program you can choose when to enroll, when and where to study, and learn at your own pace. This means that you can take more time, or less time, than a traditional semester.
